How to create EXT3 partition on SD card with ClockworkMod Recovery? (Video)

Most of the NAND Android ROMs for HTC HD2 support A2SD+ feature. A2SD+ helps to store applications and data at EXT3 partition on SD card. This is very useful for HTC HD2 which has only 512 MB of ROM. You will easily face out of internal disk storage issue if you don’t use A2SD+ supported Android ROM. EXT3 partition on SD card should solve low internal disk space issue.

Prerequisites

  • ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3

Note – CWM will format and delete everything on your SD card when creating EXT3 partition. Remember to do a backup of your SD card first.

How to Install ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 on HTC HD2? (Video)

ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) for HTC HD2 is a must installed tool as most of the NAND Android ROMs are in CWM zip format. You need to use ClockworkMod Recovery to install these zip ROMs from SD card. Besides, ClockworkMod Recovery can make full system backup and restore using Nandroid. ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 will be installed into NAND memory, therefore MAGLDR v1.13 is needed. Please follow step by step video guide to install it.

There are 3 partition layout sizes for ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 ~ 150MB, 250MB and 400MB. Which partition layout size of ClockworkMod Recovery should I use? Depending on what type of ROM that you plan to use, you should choose the partition size based on the following.

  • 150MB Partition – For bare ROM including CyanogenMod, AOSP, and MIUI
  • 250MB Partition – For Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Standard Sense ROM including Desire and EVO based ROM, can also be used for some squashed HD builds
  • 400MB Partition – For Larger ROM including unsquashed Desire HD and Z ROM

Prerequisites

  • DFT MAGLDR Bootloader v1.13

Note
– For Windows XP users, follow this guide to fix USB init failed ~ Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (723) issue.
– ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 only work on MAGLDR v1.13 and not older version.

One of the issues that many people face with installing a new NAND Android ROM based on ClockworkMod Recovery ~ fail to boot into Android. You will not face this issue if you have a blank SD card and flashing your first ClockworkMod Recovery Android ROM. However, for those who have ClockworkMod Recovery Android on the phone and wanted to try out other Android build. You might face this issue. Root cause ~ system and data structure are not the same between builds. So new Android ROM crashes with old data. Note – there are 2 major version of ClockworkMod Recovery ~ v1.2 (reside at SD card) and v1.3 (reside at NAND memory).
