Package Content
StudioBar 500HD comes well-protected in the long package. Take your time to unpack it. There is a lot of stuff. Below are the useful IR remote control, AUX cable, optical cable and AAA batteries.
Followed by 63W power adaptor and user manual.
A complete set of wall mount guide, 2 wall mount brackets and several screws. Just follow the installation guide in the user manual will do.
Build Quality & Design
Outstanding build quality for the price. Simple yet stylish. It has a long metal speaker grill in the front. Within it, there are 4 x 3″ main drivers, 2 x 1″ tweeter and 2 bass reflex ports. They have total power output of 50W (RMS).
The power, volume and audio mode buttons are located on the left.
The rest of the stuff can be found in the middle of the back. HDMI ARC, optical, AUX, USB port and DC input are there. That’s all.
Performance Result
Being a TV soundbar, SonicGear StudioBar 500HD Maverick has excellent Bluetooth performance. It can reach up to 7m with obstacles like wall. In addition, it has almost no lag between video and audio. That’s good for playing games and watching movie on your smartphones. For non-Bluetooth devices, AUX and digital connections are always there for you.
Always use digital connections when possible. They have the cleanest audio quality and everything will be processed by the speaker DSP itself. So it does not affect by the media player at all. Most of the TV, game consoles and TV box support it nowadays. Of course, AUX connection is available as the last resource.
50W pure output power (RMS) can fill up a large and quiet living room. For the best audio experience, try to stay as close as possible to the soundbar. You can feel more bass coming out from them then.
Sound Quality
SonicGear Reference Series is their best audio speakers. StudioBar 500HD Maverick keeps the trend indeed. In short, excellent audio quality for the price. You can tune the audio to match your taste with the bass and treble volume level controls. Personally, I max up both levels. So it has clear and bright sound signature. Bass is better but don’t expect powerful one like dedicated subwoofer.
By the way, you can play around with the EQ too. There are 3 of them – movie, music and dialog. Just find the best one for you. Music is the most natural audio. Movie brings 3D effects while further enhancing treble. Wider sound too. Dialog performs as it should – lower bass volume and focus on dialog.
For details, highs perform very well. Crips and clear. All the musical instruments can be heard clearly no doubt. You can enjoy well-tuned mids too. Vocals for both male and female sound natural. The built-in DSP does a great job here. As for lows, they are powerful for a soundbar. However, it won’t be as deep as those bigger dedicated subwoofers. Nonetheless, StudioBar 500HD Maverick surely performs much better than your TV built-in speakers. That’s for sure.
