HP Compaq Presario C749TU Notebook PC – Windows Vista Performance

Everybody will be wondering… Can HP Compaq Presario C749TU Notebook PC run Windows Vista? Can it run with Intel Celeron 540 1.86GHz, 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD? I am using Windows Vista Home Premium to do the test. In short, Windows Vista cannot run on this system with 512MB RAM or less. 1GB RAM and above is highly recommended. Windows Vista uses up around 600MB RAM after boot up. Some memory was used as Video memory. It uses up to 800 RAM when play movie with Media Player. It does eat a lot of memory in Windows Vista.

Processing power is another factor we have to look into. Intel Celeron 540 1.86GHz which is single core processor will not run smoothly in Windows Vista on some applications. Dual core and higher frequency CPU is highly recommended. However, it still can run most of the office application, entertainment and web browsing. No 3D gaming with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator x3100. It is way too slow to run any popular 3D games. A dedicated powerful 3D card is required. πŸ˜›

Here are the Windows Vista base score that HP Compaq Presario C749TU Notebook PC gets…

Solve intermittent network connection issue – ping request timed out

There are 2 networks in my lab environment. 1 test network and 1 general IT network connection. Test network is used for communication between test server, PQIUHC and UUT – for all the testing purpose. Test network is an isolated network. On the other hand, general IT network is used to connect to all other networks such as Internet, other lab or factory network. Test server has 2 NIC (1 connect to test network and 1 connect to general IT network)

My customer reported he failed to connect to test server from his UUT. Network failed intermittently. The simple way to test network connection is using command prompt to test it. Key in ‘ping -t testserver‘ (replace testserver with your IP) in command prompt. In normal condition, you will get ‘Reply from testserver: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=125‘. Else you will get ‘Request timed out‘ if the server network is totally out of service. However, sometime you get reply from it and sometime don’t. This is what we call intermittent network issue.

There are many factor that can cause this issue to happen. Hardware might the one that causing the problem but very less percentage unless your hardware is very old. Another one is caused by software. Finally, human’s mistake. Most of the time, it is caused by ourselves.

For this case, it is caused by human error. Somehow, there is cable from general IT switch link go to test network switch. Therefore, whenever PQIUHC or UUT want to talk to test server. They will face problem to connect to test server due to there are 2 routes (test network and general IT network). So intermittent network issue will happen. Only 1 route is allowed in this case. All we need to do is unplug the cable between these 2 switches and everything back to normal again… πŸ™‚

Enable right click on website that disable it for IE 6,7 and Firefox 3

It is very user unfriendly when you browse on the website that disable mouse right click button. I always right click on at link and open as new tab by using Firefox or Internet Explorer 7. I hate it when those website disable the right click function. So how to solve it?

There are ways to enable back the right click function. One of them is type the following into the URL bar of your browser: javascript:void(document.oncontextmenu=null). However, this won’t work on all the websites. Some of the websites I visit do not work at all with this function.
