The 1st Left 4 Dead version faces game crash issue. And the next release Left 4 Dead 2 also facing the same crashing issue. After searching online for crash fix solution, I found some that might help you all.
Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) quit / crash to desktop (CTD) fix
Solution 1
- Navigate to your windows folder (usually c:/windows/)
- Inside there, goto the CSC folder
- Try to open the folder and it should fail (if it doesn’t, you have a different problem). It’ll come up with ‘You don’t currently have permission to access this folder’ at which time you keep pressing continue until it says you’ve been denied.
- Right-click the folder, go to properties.
- Go to the security tab at which point it’ll say ‘To continue, you must be an administrative user with permission to view this object’s security properties’ at which point you click continue.
- Click on admin in the owner tab which will swap the owner to the administrator then click OK.
- You then click on OK once again which will bring up the security tab.
- Tick ‘full control’, press OK twice to get out of the properties tabs.
- Run the game.
Solution 2
- Close Steam
- Go To ..\steam\steamapps
- Delete left 4 dead 2 client.ncf
- Delete left 4 dead 2 common.ncf
- Restart Steam
- Right-click L4D2 and Install
- Let it sort itself out.
Solution 3
- Right click on L4D2 and click on properties
- Click on “Set Launch Options…”
- Type the following “-lv” and hit ok
- Play the game but be jarateed that you don’t have your gore anymore but hay it works.
Solution 4
- Try the unofficial Left 4 Dead 2 patch.

It is very strange, but I cant find any file with name “CSC”.

I resolve it already. I was only bad setting in the game, because on High Details, Shadows… Guns in game was shining white. After I set Details on Medium, all changed and everything is fine now.

CSC will not be a folder there will be three files CSC CSC config and another CSC highlight them all and go properties then do the rest

If all else fail, install all the updates from hohesC. 2.0.0.2 update 2.0.0.3 udpate, 2.0.0.4 update.
Crash while loading for me until i installed 2.0.0.4
I haven’t tired 2.0.0.5, 2.0.0.6 or 2.0.0.7 since 2.0.0.4 works perfect

The first thing to do is to make sure that your video drivers up to date. Start Windows Update and see if there are any optional updates for your video card.
seems patches work as is a little confusion of exacly to do in install though the program is running good seems but running system settings at high i have i7 chipset and needs to run at 100 on my cpu think not why is it doing that seems as it is the last file to install doing the cpu at 100 and how to shut it down after game play would be great as i went into my task manager and started manually ending proccess fah program i think it goes by how many cores you pc has mine 8 so there was 16 instances of it i turned them off starting with the first one please nice to know how to end this the proper way after game play thanks all the info
there is no need to install fah program it is some crap people put in it not sure of reason either to do damage to uour pc or legit but is says it is a program for helping scientist out blah blah blah as i say it is my pc not theres good luck
The second solution worked perfectly and I did not had to sacrifice graphics or anything else. The second solution was my solution to the problem.

Thanks for all the help with crash fixes, but unfortunately I have tried every solution and still no fix. I get about 30 seconds into playing the game and it crashes to the desktop. I’m extremely frustrated, any other ideas that may work?
I’m running a brand new Alienware system with Windows 7, and I’m completely stumped. I’m out of ideas on how to get this frickin game to run. Any other ideas?
