How to upgrade HTC HD2 ROM Through SD Card? (Video)

Normally, we upgrade HTC HD2 Windows Mobile ROM using RUU with USB cable. It is faster than using SD card method. Then why do we need to upgrade HTC HD2 ROM through SD card?

  • Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM is corrupted
  • Remove HSPL3 ~ SPL-2.08.HSPL

You cannot upgrade HTC HD2 Windows Mobile ROM using RUU when you cannot even connect through Windows Mobile Device Center or ActiveSync. And the only way to remove HSPL is to use SD card upgrade ROM method with official HTC HD2 stock ROM.

Do a backup with PIM Backup v2.8 before upgrading your Windows Mobile ROM. Note – all your data will be deleted when install new ROM. Download official HTC HD2 v3.14 ROM or latest and get ready to start.

By the way, no need to load into bootloader to see HSPL. That’s for your information that SD card upgrade method can really remove HSPL in the video. And for corrupted Windows Mobile case, just copy leoimg.nbh file to your SD card using SD card reader instead of USB cable in the video. Then continue from there…

Step by Step Guide

  1. Power off your phone.
  2. Press volume down button (don’t let go) and power on your phone.
  3. It will load into bootloader.
  4. You should get ‘Red, Green, Blue and White’ screen with SPL-2.08.HSPL.
  5. Take off the battery.
  6. Power on your phone.
  7. Connect USB cable from PC to phone after Windows Mobile loaded.
  8. At PC, right click and open official HTC HD2 ROM with 7-Zip.
  9. Copy ‘RUU_signed.nbh’ to desktop.
  10. Rename it to ‘leoimg.nbh’.
  11. Connect to SD card storage using Windows Mobile Device Center / ActiveSync.
  12. Copy leoimg.nbh to SD card storage.
  13. Disconnect USB cable from phone.
  14. Open ‘File Explorer’.
  15. Go to ‘Storage Card’.
  16. Confirm that leoimg.nbh is in SD card root level.
  17. Power off your phone.
  18. Press volume down button (don’t let go) and power on your phone.
  19. It will load into bootloader.
  20. You should get ‘Red, Green, Blue and White’ screen with SPL-2.08.HSPL.
  21. Let go volume down button when you see ‘loading…’.
  22. Then ROM upgrade screen will be loaded.
  23. Press power button to start update the ROM.
  24. ROM update process will take around 15 minutes.
  25. Take off the battery after update success.
  26. Power on your phone.
  27. First time use preparation process will take around 4 minutes.
  28. Then follow phone onscreen instructions to setup.
  29. Power off your phone.
  30. Press volume down button (don’t let go) and power on your phone.
  31. It will load into bootloader.
  32. You should get ‘Red, Green, Blue and White’ screen with SPL-3.03.
  33. Press volume down button to cancel ROM update.
  34. That’s all.

After remove HSPL3 ~ SPL-2.08.HSPL, no worry about warranty issue when send your HTC HD2 to service.
