New firmware upgrade for Samsung Galaxy S2 DXKI2 & XWKE8 (Southeast Asia & India)

Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100 users in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines and India finally. Lot of Samsung Galaxy S2 users in Southeast Asia and India had been complaining about lack of new Android version update since initial launch. And they can enjoy new official Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread DXKL3 and XWKL1 firmware for their own region now.

If you are still on official DXKI2 and XWKE8 firmware, it’s time for you to upgrade current firmware to Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread DXKL3 and XWKL1 firmware. This should fix the famous poor battery life issue just like Europe firmware did. Enjoy latest and greatest Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 firmware. And Happy New Year…

    Am currently on XXKI4 – and just updated the DXKL3 firmware via Odin.
    Since the CSC on XXKI4 is “LCKL2” – will it have negative impact on this firmware?
    I don’t want to wipe the data off my phone – but if its neccessary I’ll do just that…..
    So far… things seems normal to me… however the DXKL3 firmware does have the “LCKL2” CSC….. not sure if there’ll be compatibility issues

        Thanks for the reply…. maybe I’ve mistaken.. I always have this impression that the firmware and CSC comes as a set.. ie go hand in hand.
        But if you’re using the Europe CSC on an Asia firmware for a while now…. think it should be just fine..

    well ive been talking to my friend … well he said tat if we run a custom rom we r actually giving information about us to the developer of tat rom .. is tat true ?? also do samsung service centres accept phones with custom roms … well the reason im asking this is the service centre accepted my phone while it was running checkrom !!!

    Thanks for this information. I also upgraded to XXKI4 when it came out. So am wondering other than easier with warranty issues at samsung service centre.. is there any other reason to use our own region firmware (more stable, etc?)

    i am presently running stock firmware 2.3.3. and wanted to upgrade to this 2.3.6 XWKL1…is it possible to flash this with odin insted of using kies? Also after the upgrade , to root it back which CF Root should i use?

  11. Yeah, thanks for the info. I already updated mine to 2.3.6 just now after desperately checking for it everyday. I’m from Philippines btw and I was expecting that there will be a rotation animation for this one…but I’m not disappointed since it has improvements in battery life and some additional UI effects. This is a good christmas and new year gift from samsung. Cheers!

    Some observation on DXKL3

    Was from XXKI4 and then upgraded to DXKL3.
    I would say, battery life took a slight hit – other than that I don’t see any visible change.
    I’m not saying that battery is bad – especially if you’re coming from 2.3.3 – you’ll immediately notice the improved battery performance.

    I don’t need the Asia language – therefore went back to XXK14….. am waiting for ICS to be release.

      I reverted back to DXKL3 from XXKI4 just this morning and initial looks of it, it looks true.. battery seems to drain slightly faster (3 – 4 %) more than XXKI4 and battery seems ‘hotter’ during normal use – i am using a battery widget as a gauge (29 degrees when screen is on for the first time, and 32 vs 36 (XXKI4 vs DXKL3).

      Well its just the first day for me and had to do some reconfiguration of settings since i did a factory reset as well to solve other issues so maybe that contributed to the battery drain.. Will see how this goes and make another comparison soon.

          Hmm just a quick Day one observation post for DXKL3

          2015 charged to full 100%
          2359 light surfing, playing a quick 20 min game dropped to 91%

          Next day
          0700 checked and it had dropped to 85% (usually in the night it usually drops only 2 %)
          1200 light surfing, IM , checking and replying emails 67%
          1700 light surfing, IM , checking and replying emails 52%
          2000 light surfing, IM , 42%
          2230 25%

          Since it is not possible to do exactly the same thing everyday.. Will test out for another week and see how it goes. Overall i think battery life is definitely better than 2.3.4/2.3.5. However comparing to XXKI4 it seems to drain slightly faster, typically it should be 10-15% more than what it should be. But perhaps on those days i was doing less stuff.

          Hope this gives you and others a rough guide 🙂

            After close to a week of using DXKL3, i feel is that the battery life is comparable with XXKI4, overall i feel it drains slightly faster (typically 4 – 6 % more depending on repeated usage) but to me i feel it is acceptable. 🙂

    my phone battery is running for 24-30 hrs for modrate usage…
    is it normal or should i check ma phone with samsung service centre???…
    battery is 1650mAh….

    When i connect through KIES it tells me that “Your device does not support Software Upgrading through Kies”. However i understand there is a official version release (2.3.6)

    I am using Galaxy S2 stock in India. 4 days ago it could not detect the service provider. I put in the flight mode. After that its stuck in flight mode. Have tried switching off. Removed the battery for few hours. Have even tried doing a factory reset. No luck.
    Surprisingly it is not showing even IMEI details. Please help

    I dont have broadband in home, hence i wanna upgrade firmware in Office laptop in office. But seems somewhere its port or server is blocked. Even kies doesn’t show up latest version update.

    Any knowledge, what link or port kies uses to connect to samsung server?? Any way to sort it out??

    currently my SGS 2 have audio problem. when im using the handsfree, the voice i heard from the earpiece are too low. very hard to hear when calling someone eventhough im using original handsfree provided in the box. but i can hear loudly when playing music.

    also, when i make normal call (wihout hndsfree), my friends complaining my voice are too low and i need to repeat and talk loudly to make them hear me.

    did android already have firmware update that can solve this problem?

    hope you can show me how to solve this problem.

  41. Updated to this new firmware for 9100G. But it got hang problem eg receive SMS, typing SMS, run the camera etc intermittently. Need to take out the battery to reset.

    Does anyone else have this problem?

Just wondering…I’m from the Philippines and I just connected my S2 to Kies for the first time to hopefully update my firmware to 2.3.6., because I heard that the update is already available here.     If i update the official firmware using Odin will Kies detect any firware upgrades in future.

    After that whenever i connect to my PC , the usb is not getting detected.
    I tried installin again both kies as well as samsung latest usb drivers.

    • hi just found this on Google an am sharing this.
      This helped me to connect to my PC

      Resolution
      1. Unplug the USB cable
      2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284# Once the last # is hit, the PhoneUtil application is launched. Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode. The good mode should be PDA. Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.
      3. Plug the USB cable.

  52. Got my sgs2 firmware upgrade through kies took me 2 hours due to poor internet speed. So wats new in 2.3.6 actually it solved one of the most discussed problems of sgs2 that is over heating and battery drain.
    didn’t find any mirror crackling updates just a few minor tweaks
    1. Extra poversaving Option
    2. Home screen can run on continuous loop
    3. Wifi option improved
    4. Minor changes to notification bar
    5. Swype key pads upgraded
    6. New options added in accessibility
    7. ofcourse how can one forget the blue line which appears at the end of scroll

      • YES IT IS STILL WORKING. no problems at all.
        one more new thing when we connect it to kies on pc we can use the phone explore it or even use gallery since befor we had to keep the phone away while using kies with pc. no moreannoying screen saying do not exit this screen. so all in all except making call while connected to kies we can do pretty much everything

    1. i have only been updating my phone via kies havent done any rooting stuff (to be honest dont really understand it all) if i use odin will if change my root thingy?

    • 1. Odin does not change your root access unless you install kernel that provide root access.
      2. No ICS from Kies yet. You can install leaked beta version with Odin. But not for daily use as not everything is working now.

    i have done the upgrading and i try to detect by kies but was given error msg of “Your device could not support software update from KIES”. why was it so? could KIES in future able to detect when they release new software? I was waiting for ICS under KIES but was worry tat it might not be able to detect in future..

    Got a bit of a problem here, i updated my i9100 to 2.3.6 via odin and my current kernel is I9100XXkL1, VIA ODIN. When i open kies,it says”Your device does not support software upgrading via kies”. I checked out my CSC and it is set to KOR whereas i’m in india and unfortunately i dint find ODD (hope ODD stands for india) on the list of CSCs (i tried “*#272*Device IMEI#”) . I dont know if my kernel is stock……… what shud i do to get kies update my gs2…… pls help

Hi, I’ve used ODIN to sucessfully put on various Kernels on the Samsung GT-I9100, root phone etc.. but when I came to downgrade my 02 XWKJ1 ROM to generic XWKE1 or XWKE2 ROMS, the firmware is applied but when the phone reboots, I’m prompted for a passowrd (have tried intratech@XDA just in case but no joy)

    I found the answer on xda forums – it’s to do with security applications on the phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290266&highlight=password+at+boot)

    Btw the password thing- it happens when you had previously installed security apps. Like any antivirus or any password protection app. Like -‘ app. Protector pro.’ And these passwords are not actually harmful as they are just for security measures and when you input incorrect password 4-5 times they will say that going through will format your SD card but they actually don’t do anything when you go through.

    How do I install the new firmware update? From Kies on my pc or I can just search for the update on my phone by using the Software update option in the setting? Also I would like to ask if charging from my Mac/PC better than charging from the AC supply or vice versa. I’ve been using my Mac/PC to charge my phone and I’ve had the poor battery issue since.   79. i did try to upgrade with the samsung Kies, and factory reset it. before i upgrade it. it seems still have the same prob.
    when ever i left my phone and sleep but when i wake up the screen just freeze or turn off.
    I’m sure i’ve charged fully.
    what should i do change another kernel
    and if i charged my phone when it’s off it comes out this yellow triangle warning thing.
    feel like selling my phone and change iphone now.. 😛

  80. @ku123: I did not try to use stock kernel to remove yellow triangle on custom ROM. Use USB jig usually.

    As for theme, did you apply install after downloaded?

Hi jayce, sorry to bother you man, but i have a problem, my phone started acting up so i had it taken to repairs, i got it back, and my software has been downgraded from 2.3.5 to 2.3.3 and now Samsung Kies says my device is cannot be upgrade with keys. the phone is not rooted. what do i do? i want to upgrade it back, and also Samsung is releasing ICS 4.0.3 on the 1st of march, i cant miss that. any tips on how to fix this?

    I’ve updated my firmware to 2.3.6 for my Galaxy SII. Later I discovered that my ‘allshare’ DLNA sharing app no longer opens video files other than .mp4 formats stored in my NAS. I used to be able to watch more formats when phone was on 2.3.4.

    Have you encountered a similar case or whats your take?

    Should I downgrade to 2.3.4?

  91. I have Samsung Galaxy S2 with android version as 2.3.6 with baseband version as I9100GDDKI1 which I bought on 25th Dec’11 in India. I selected Software update and found a firmware update approx 49.86 MB, but it doesn’t mention the firmware version. Please let me know if its good to go ahead and download that firmware update or visit Samsung Service Center for upgrade.

    • Hi jeff, yes you can. There should be official ICS firmware for Philippines now. Install official firmware with Samsung Kies won’t void warranty.

    my S2 battery always shows 100% and when I reboot it shows an error msg with the battery and a attention icon with the temperature bar type (not sure what it is). I am able to switch it on again only if I connect to the usb or charger. How can I get this fixed.

    can i downgrade to my original firmware ?
    if yes >>the problem is that i don’t know what is my original firmware
    how can i find out?

    and if i downgrade to original firmware ,, can i use kies to update firmware in the future

        and he didn’t upgrade
        i can take the info ( pda,csc ) from him

        can u give me a download link for them if i get them?

        and what info do i need?

          • am going to upgrade to XWLP7
            am downloading the kernel and the firmware
            is it going to solve my problem? ( can i update using kies in the future? )

                i upgraded to the official XWLP7 firmware
                but it still says (your device does not support software upgrading via kies )

                but it works fine and every thing is good so far

  106. Hi Mr Jayce, I wanted to downgrade from ICS to this firmware cause I didn’t really liked it. So I wiped data and cache and I installed via odin but at the first try, it says, “Fail!” So I tried flashing it again and now it’s stuck at the setupconnection. May I know what’s the problem?     my problem is that i cannot upgrade my fone to 2.3.6 or to 4.0 ice cream sandwich.
    i have tried with kies and with my fone through wifi too. what is the matter and what is rooted fone. what i have to do? i m currently using my fone in Lahore, Pakistan please help?????????
