As a hardcore gamer, the very first thing that I tried on my newly bought Amazon Kindle Fire ~ games. Lot of games testing… Kindle Fire is powered by 1 GHz Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 dual-core processor and 304 MHz PowerVR SGX540 GPU. Kindle Fire has 7″ multi-touch (2 points only) IPS screen with resolution 600×1024 px. Its IPS display really shines here (look better than iPad due to higher pixel density).
By the way, Kindle Fire is using the same SoC like Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100G model in Malaysia. Some SGS2 I9100G owners claim that PowerVR SGX540 GPU is better than SGS2 I9100 ARM Mali-400 MP GPU. Does PowerVR SGX540 GPU perform well in all 2D and 3G games? Let’s find out…
Angry Birds Seasons, Fruit Ninja, Cut the Rope, Airport Mania 2: Wild Trips, Xmas Pinball, Shine Runner, World of Goo, Where’s My Water?, Dungeon Defenders: Second Wave, Sprinkle, Roboto, Fieldrunners HD, Sleepy Jack, SHADOWGUN and Wind-up Knight are the games that I tested on Kindle Fire. Kindle Fire performs very well on 2D games like Angry Birds Seasons, Cut the Rope, Airport Mania 2: Wild Trips, World of Goo, Where’s My Water?, Sprinkle and Fieldrunners HD and 3D games like Fruit Ninja, Sleepy Jack and Roboto.
Shine Runner, Dungeon Defenders: Second Wave, Xmas Pinball and Wind-up Knight 3D games are okay to play but lag a bit sometime. Finally, PowerVR SGX540 GPU fails to perform well on complex FPS 3D games like SHADOWGUN.
As a conclusion, Kindle Fire is perfect for normal 2D and 3D games (except intensive 3D games like SHADOWGUN). Can’t argue much for the price that you pay @ $199. A nice Android tablet for kids, family and casual users…
