Well done… Continue with this post ~ How to Install NAND Android on HTC HD2 with ClockworkMod Recovery? (Video)
Jayce.. hv u done this on yr HD2? Any problem so far?.. i’m still very unsure about this tho..
Yes, of course. No problem so far. The video above was taken by me with my HTC HD2. 😉
thanks… which NAND ROM are u using now? Still solid, is battery life better than any SD ROM?
What Radio Version needed? Mine is 2.12 with Stock WME 1.66.. shud I reflash new/higher version? Thanks in advance for the help… I initially quite reluctant to go for NAND coz worries to brick my phone if i miss out the steps but since NAND ROM came, I dont see anymore new SD coming or being maintained.. all dev are leaving SD or RAM version now i guess…
I am using JDMS Ultimate right now. Battery life is better for sure. I think 2.12 radio should work but I am using 2.15. But you definitely need HSPL3.
Bricking HD2? How many HD2 users did you see their HD2 brick? Actually, as long as you have HSPL3 install properly, your HD2 is safe from becoming brick. You can flash WinMo, Android and WP7 with it. Just load into its bootloader and start all over again and again…
i have followed all the steps, but whenever i click on the 1st option on the MAGLDR 1.11, its given error failed and returning back to the options. what should i do.
Do you have initrd.gz and zImage files at your SD card root level? Or did you change the default SD Android path previously?
Jayce I need your help…
I have same problem because I renamed the SD card path. then what should I do?
thank in advance…..
Change it back to your current Android folder path.
Unfortunately I forgot the prev. folder path..
in the moment, I flash my HD2 with Ur ROM (prj_build_v0.2) it’s quite stable and very fast. But I don’t have CwM Rec. on my DFT bootloader so I couldn’t do EXT3 partition.
any advise to get into ClockworkMod Recovery would be appreciated..
Follow above guide to get CWM installed.
I’m using MAGLDR 1.13, so I can’t use ClockworkMod-Recovery1.2? is that my problem? cause I have done all (MAGLDR and CwM-Rec installation again), but problem still exist… CwM-Rec didn’t loaded..
Btw U are very responsive, your answer is quick…thank much bro…
Yup, install CWM 1.3.
https://www.jayceooi.com/2011/08/15/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-v1-3-on-htc-hd2-video/
many many thank to you Jayce…
I solved my prev. problem, now I still used Ur ROM (prj_build_v0.2).
all seem OK, OS running well and no lag, also I have EXT3 partition on my SD card. But I still have 1 problem in the G-sensor. it doesn’t work at all, while gaming, browsing, picture etc…any idea?
thanks..now U’r my hero….kekeekekke….
This is ROM issue. You can try other latest Android ROM which is better.
ever since i installed on my hd2 it wont recognize my hd2 since im trying to flash other programs into my phone it will charge and all but when i go to the red blue and green screen it stays at serial it wont read my usb also in magldr i cant flash anything anymore and im trying to flash wp7 onto my hd2 please help
Anything changes on your PC lately? You already install NAND Android before, right? Then you should not have any issue to install Windows Phone 7.
got a different laptop i have already removed all the safety precautions for my usb ports and all but it still wont work i might have to try something else and yes i already have magldr 1.11 i was just trying to upgrade to 1.13 to get wp7 but when i downloaded the clockwork recovery i accidently installed the newest version before installing magldr i think thats where i went wrong and now it wont even run clockwork at all
ok well i tried a different hd2 phone and the same thing happened is there anything i can do to make it work is there some sort of thing i have to do to my laptop or some steps i have to go through in order for it to work im guessing it has something to do with the firewall but i turned it off and it still had no effect
Do you have Windows Mobile Device Center installed on Windows Vista / Windows 7 or ActiveSync installed on Windows XP on that laptop?
yes i do when my phone is on regular without the magldr it charges and all but thats it but when i go into it it wont recognize it i hear the sound for when i plug it in but nothing show on my phone like when i go into the option 4. usb flasher and run the wp7 program or a custom radio to return it to original i get an error that says cant read phone or palm device to make sure my usb is connected im sure it has something to do with acces to my usb through my firewall im just not that oriented on computers dont really know how to acces it can you please post a link if possible
Is your laptop using Windows XP?
windows 7. it has something to do with it im sure i went to another laptop that my friend has and everything works i was able to install everything properly i guess i just has to find a way to install the driver to make it work for the next install i want to do cause i dont feel like using somebody elses laptop to do my work so please if you know how to fix this problem a link would be very much appreciated
Any different between your friend’s laptop and yours? This will help to narrow down the issue.
Same laptop I noticed that when I first plugged in my phone on his the driver installed properly and on mine it didn’t and btw I have an hp mini 110
Try to reformat your laptop if can. Start from fresh always help solve things. 😉

Yea I complete the installation threw zip formant, installation was complete but on booth up it does work at all.rite now only roms with dft installer works on my device
Any rom that I tried using threw clockworkmod using zip and sd card does the same thing. After installation it boots up and then I c the rom android logo and it restart over and over again
Which ROM did you try? And what is the detail error before it restart?
24. Follow onscreen instructions to install.
25. Phone will be rebooted after installation finished.
i try to install DAF but it appear usb int fail..so how should i do?
at this time i cannot open back my wm 6.5.
Try this – https://www.jayceooi.com/2011/01/26/how-to-fix-usb-init-failed-rsplrspl-cpp-723-on-nand-android-installation/
yeah I tried that jayce and it keeps failing, I’m pretty sure I’m following all the steps correctly. Is it because I’m using windows 7.
Hmm… I am using Windows 7 also and face no issue. Are you using all the files here? And follow the exact same step by step here? If yes, I am running out of idea. Sorry…
Hi jayce i have downloaded and extracted the contents of clockwordmod recovery 1.3 to temp folder but i cant see the folder “copy_to_sd_root”. else i have a img file name recovery-raw
This guide is for ClockworkMod Recovery v1.2 only. v1.3 does not have it. https://www.jayceooi.com/2011/02/03/download-clockworkmod-recovery-v1-3-for-htc-hd2/
it does not have installation procedure
I’m stuck on GO GO GO!
what should I do?! 🙁
What is the error details? And which step are you at now?
i have the same issue. it goes to “GO Go GO” then it reboots and the phone starts to boot and then it goes straight to that “Go Go Go” page again. Just finished all the steps and cant figure why. I see no error details
Did you install NAND Android?
Yes, i installed everything, step by step according to the video. Its already fixed tho, i took it to some guy on CL and he fixed it within a matter of minutes. Now im runnin 2.3 Gingerbread. Too bad i dont have the glory of doing it myself successfully, but hey, im running Gingerbread! B)
I have the same issue but I did not installed NAND android, I did the whole procedure having W6.5….
Should I just go to NAND installation video and do the whole thing to fix this?
thanks !!!
now when I reboot the phone it goes directly to the boot menu
Did you able to load ClockworkMod Recovery? If yes, continue to install NAND Android.
i install initrd and zImage but when i restart my phone it says failure to load initrd and keeps restarting
Are you using ClockworkMod Recovery v1.2 or v1.3?
v1.3 it also says NAND kernel failed
Is your MAGLDR v1.13? If yes, you need to select AD Recovery to load into ClockworkMod Recovery.
I am stuck on running DAF with the following error, my HD2 is now unusable, help!!!
Error Description: Config load failed.
Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (725)
Error Description: CONFIG: can’t open config file
Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (304)
I am doing the install on Windows 7 with HSPL3_PKG, DFT_LEO_MGLDR113_DAF and Radio_Leo_2.15.50.14.
ClockworkMod Recovery v1.2 cannot work on MAGLDR v1.13. Try v1.3 at https://www.jayceooi.com/2011/02/03/download-clockworkmod-recovery-v1-3-for-htc-hd2/
Thank you for your prompt reply, I have downloaded Recovery_v1.3_400M, unfortunately, it is still doing the same. I have tried re-formatting the SD card manually and then copying the initrd and zImage files back. The PC host is not picking up still the SD card. What do I need to do if I need to roll it back to my WM6.5, I really don’t want to but I might have no choice.
Huh? Recovery_v1.3_400M does not have initrd and zImage files. How did you get above error? Which file did you execute?
Must be from my previous install of ClockworkMod-Recovery-v1.2…. ;(
I ran the DAF file from Recovery_v1.3_400M.
Hmm… I am running out of idea if you have done it in the correct way. To remove Windows Phone 7 – https://www.jayceooi.com/2011/01/18/how-to-remove-windows-phone-7-from-htc-hd2/
Yes Recovery_v1.3 does not have initrd and zImage files, what to do, how to install it? plz help!!

It failed to open SD kernel or NAND kernel?

Then your NAND Android installation had problem. Try to reinstall it again. Which Android ROM did you install?
BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA GINGER NAND Android A2SD+ Zip ROM for HTC HD2 and typhoon
Hmm… How did you install them? Both of them should be working if install correctly.

Kinldy plzzzz help, I am stuck here!!!
Try this if you are using Windows XP – https://www.jayceooi.com/2011/01/26/how-to-fix-usb-init-failed-rsplrspl-cpp-723-on-nand-android-installation/

Do you mean that ClockworkMod Recovery cannot be loaded? What is the kernel that MAGLDR trying to load?
Never mind. I got it working. Thanks
HOW?? I have the same error
Wow I think you are amazing for answering all these questions. My problem seems so simple, yet I’m not smart enough to find the answer. I can’t get windows mobile center or window activesync to detect my phone thus causing DAF.exe to not connect. I have tried everything and searched everywhere to no avial. I’ve tried my XP desktop with activesync and mobile center with my windows 7 PC. I initially installed a nand rom on my HD2 when I have vista on my PC. Now that nothing will connect I can’t change anything up on the HD2 especially to put Clockwork on. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
What did you select at your phone when you try to connect to PC?
Since I have Android already installed I’ve selected both debugging as well as mount usb storage. is there another option I should select?
Aren’t above steps working for you?
yeah this isn’t working for me. I’ve followed every step but when i get to step 28 all it says is ” SD Kernel Open Failed” and takes me back to the main menu. What am I doing wrong jayce
Are initrd.gz and zImage files on SD card root level? If yes, what is the default SD Android folder that you set?
default SD folder???
Boot into MAGLDR. Go to Services – BootSettings – AD SD Dir. Select < .> as default SD Android folder.
I wish someone would say how they fixed or got past the Go Go Go issue; can’t seem to find a solution at all??!!
What is the kernel that your phone trying to load?
Hey you!
It’s works great for me, thanks for that! =)
But… i tried another Custom Rom, installed by DAF or as .zip from SD-Card, that doesen’t work for me… dow you have another Rom from me? 😉

Wipe data and cache before install new Android ROM – https://www.jayceooi.com/2011/04/20/how-to-wipe-data-cache-with-clockworkmod-recovery-on-htc-hd2/
Does it matter if my micro sd is FAT formatted or FAT32? I have HTC HD2 with utimate droid installed.
Hmm… I am not too sure. But I am using FAT32.
I had tried the whole process H/ever mine was stuck at the HTC logo.. i read the comment and someone said to reformat the SD card and repeat this step. I tried but now it stuck at the “GO GO GO”.. able help ASAP!! TY in advance
Copy initrd.gz and zImage files to SD card root level will fix ‘Go Go Go’ issue.
ok.. now it can work.. But my phone had no sound… why is this happeneing? how to do it if i wan to restore back to window?
Sorry, I have no idea on no sound issue. Did not face it before. To revery back Windows Mobile, just install WinMo ROM will do.
got one problem, the files that need 2 be copied, initrd.gz and zImage, ive got initrd without gz, downloaded from here… and at the end of the instalation an error occured, something about sd-card… what should i do ?
May I know the error detail description?
Error Description: USB init failed
Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (736)
Huh? USB init failed has something to do with SD card?
I deleted all the trash off my SD card but in boot settings I can still see all the folders, when I try to boot of the SD card, i can briefly see the zimage file, but then it pops back to the menu, any ideas, maybe reformat the card? what do you use..
I am using sMAGLDR V1.11
Sorry, I don’t get you. What do you want to do actually?
I want to install the Install ClockworkMod Recovery, I have done exactly as your tutorial but when I try to boot from AD SD nothing happens, copied the correct zimage and initrd but nothing happens
Did it show SD kernel open failed before back to main menu? If yes, those 2 files are not in your SD card root level. By the way, did you change the default boot folder for SD Android previously?
Formated the card put everything back in the root and still no luck, the PC can see the card by the way, is there a special way I should format the card?
No special way, just FAT32 format will do.
Got the mod installed, but now this error
NAND yaffs2 boot mount failed
Which Android ROM did you install?
I have done till step 21 and for 22 i dont have “administrator” rights on my laptop. Secondly I am getting the 12345 GO GO GO screen on reboot. It is not booting to mgldr screen where i can connect to pc via usb. could yu pls help me.. thx
Please get a system that you have administrator right to do this.
Yepp I will get the admin password to login.. that will solve.
But here is my question that on rebooting the mobile mgldr1.1 is getting stuck at 12345 GOGOGO screen and not connecting USB. Please help to connect USB to PC rest I can countnue from step 22. Many thanks for your time.
Doesn’t this step help to solve your issue? https://www.jayceooi.com/2011/01/26/how-to-fix-usb-init-failed-rsplrspl-cpp-723-on-nand-android-installation/
I am not able to connect to PC. In your last URL(provided above) the first step is to load Android Flasher mode and Connect USB cable from PC to phone.
When i reboot my phone mgldr is taking to 12345 GOGOGO and getting stuck there.
It is not connecting to PC via USB.
Ya, that’s correct. You need to load into Android Flasher mode. Step 17 to 19 on this post.
You ROCK,, Seriously…
It worked.. But I am yet to get the administrator login from my company.
Many thanks for your time and dedication.
I am trying on a different laptop which has got Admin rights. I gettgin the below error :
USB init failed RSPL\RSPL.cpp (723)
I have done everything as suggested in below url but i am gettign the same above error.

Did you manage to install ClockworkMod Recovery v1.2 (all the steps in this post)?
Hello Tarek,
I can try to help you get back to your old Windows OS if your using a HTC HD2 T8585 phone.
***Before attempting this, format your micro sd card to fat 32. If your sd card is not recognized or cant be formatted go to: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3 and download the SD card formatted suited for your computer (windows/mac). With the use of a sd card adapter the program should help you format your sd card. After thats done, place the formatted SD card in your phone SD slot.
Now follow this instructions:
1) Go to this website: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623283
2) Download any of the 3.14.xxx.x ROMS in your country preference.
3) You should have downloaded something that like “RUU_Leo_S_HTC_……….” into your computer.
4) Drag the ROM to your desktop
5) Make sure your HTC phone is unplugged
6) Hold the volume button down and hold the power button together
7) This should lead you to a red, green, blue, and white screen with words “serial”
8) Then plug your usb cord to the phone to your computer. The words should change from “serial” —-> “USB”
9) Go to your desktop and click on the downloaded ROM and install it.
10) The ROM should recognize your HTC phone and restore its operating system back to Windows.
I hope this helps you!
No I couldn’t install the DFT. it alwayse give me the error msg 723
This is the error msg,
USB init failed RSPL\RSPL.cpp (723)
Does your system has Windows Mobile Device Center installed?
yes, I have WMC.
Wired… This should not be happening. Just to double confirm. Which software and version did you install on your phone now ~ HSPL, radio and MAGLDR?
All the mentioned above are installed in my device
i’ve installee magldr and clockwork sucessfully but after installing roms from sd card it just keep on restarting again and again using coredroid any tips why?
Which Android ROM are you using? Link to it will be better.
Coredroid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926507
I tried CoreDroid DHD v1 long time ago. Does the version that you tried need EXT3 partition on your SD card?
oh do i need to partition sd card? havent done that its my first time doing this nand android thing Start thinking wanna try it for a change. so if ever how can i partition may sd card? tnxs
That will depend on the Android ROM that you plan to install. Some ROM supports A2SD+ which need EXT3 partition on SD card. https://www.jayceooi.com/2011/01/12/how-to-create-ext3-partition-on-sd-card-with-clockworkmod-recovery/
ok tnxs for the reply.
Hello Jayce,
during installation of clockwork, after selecting usb flasher mode option, the phone is not being
detected by the computer when i connect with it? give any solution?
Do you have Windows Mobile Device Center installed on Windows Vista / Windows 7 or ActiveSync installed on Windows XP?
Yes, I have ActiveSync installed on Win XP.
Try this see – https://www.jayceooi.com/2011/01/26/how-to-fix-usb-init-failed-rsplrspl-cpp-723-on-nand-android-installation/

Either one is fine.
Hey Jayce.
I have been trying to load android to HD2. however, the phone freezes at the stage when zImage and initrd.gz have been loaded. The screen does not change to the next stage. I have installed all the other requirements.

So how can u help. From the video, all our phones are the same.
ooh yaah. There, when the phone is switched on. there is a screen that appears and was able to see…….” NAND Kernel open failed”
NAND Kernel open failed is normal because you did not install it yet. Maybe you can try latest version of MAGLDR and CWM.

Hi jayce
I have tried to install clockworkmod following your guided, all are successfull installation, but I have a question, on the Press call button to load 1. Boot AD SD. then ClockworkMod Recovery should not loaded, what’s wrong???
I gave you latest guide. Why you still using the old one?
Hi jayce
I just fixed it and all fine, thank a lot for your guided and helps.
Hi Jayce 🙂
Just completed this thing until I reached something annoying:$
I done everything, until I got to the stage I should pick the first option…
I have done it all fine (except from one stage in the beginning, I deleted everything from the sd card cause it didn’t let me start the magldr, it started a logo of htc in green and got stuck).
I click the first option and nothing happens!
Thank for advance, Eyal.

Hi, I’m trying to download your 7-zip app from your website but it’s not working.
I have a Compaq Presario with Windows 7. Are there any firewall settings I need to disable in order to complete the installation process?
Any help with this will be most appreciative. Thanks in advance.

Which 7-zip app?
Actually, this link appears at random on several of your sites. I’ll email the link to ya when I get a chance. For now, I’m going to bed…later. Zzzzzzz
im stuck at step 12, mine shows initrd.gz as winrar file , instead of just a file.
tried both ways to extract and copy over and tried copy over as winrar. none work, any help?
No need to extract it. Just copy will do. If still cannot, use 7-Zip like me.

Hi Estrada, try on other PC see.
Ok I did and it worked thanks! But…… what do I do now? Where do I get Roms ans how do I install then. Thanks
Hi Estrada, https://www.jayceooi.com/2011/08/02/top-android-2-3-5-gingerbread-nand-android-rom-for-htc-hd2/
Hi Jayce,
This is my very first time to root or is it flash.. anyway, because of your uber helpful video guides, i was able to install HSPL3 ~ SPL-2.08.HSPL, radio ROM 2.15 and DFT MAGLDR Bootloader. Then, I started on your video for ClockworkMod Recovery… However, when I reached these steps:
15. Use volume up button to go up to 9. Reset.
16. Then press call button.
17. Press power button and don’t let go.
I did 15 & 16 properly, but i wasn’t able to do 17. it just rebooted on it’s own. So, i redid 15 & 16 and this time, i pressed 17. Unfortunately, it must’ve been a mistake because I’m getting the following messages:
ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.5
E:Can’t find misc
E:failed to find “cache” partition to mount at “/cache”
E:Can’t mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can’t find misc
E:failed to find “cache” partition to mount at “/cache”
E:Can’t mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can’t open /cache/recovery/log
E:failed to find “cache” partition to mount at “/cache”
E:Can’t mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can’t open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can’t find misc
E:failed to find “cache” partition to mount at “/cache”
i also get some choices at the very top of the screen:
– reboot system now
– apply update from sdcard
– wipe data/factory reset
– wipe cache partition
– install zip from sdcard
– backup and restore
– mounts and storage
– advanced
I’m afraid to try and select an option for fear of compounding on my mistake.. Can you please tell me how to fix this? Please please?
Thank you!
Hi Lisa, please refer to this updated guide.
https://www.jayceooi.com/2011/08/15/how-to-install-cwm-nand-android-on-htc-hd2-video/
Hi Jayce.
Thank you for the quick reply. Thrilled to be able to get an updated link.
Um, but i think i need to erase the old one first since it’s corrupted. when i tried to install HSPL4, it just displayed the above information:
ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.5
E:Can’t find misc
E:failed to find “cache” partition to mount at “/cache”
E:Can’t mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can’t find misc
E:failed to find “cache” partition to mount at “/cache”
E:Can’t mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can’t open /cache/recovery/log
E:failed to find “cache” partition to mount at “/cache”
E:Can’t mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can’t open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can’t find misc
E:failed to find “cache” partition to mount at “/cache”
i was wondering if wipe cache partition or wipe data/factory reset erase the previous CWM so i can start afresh or something? my apologies if i am bothering you with this but i hope u would be able to shed some light as to how to restore things so i can begin again at installation of HSPL4..
Thank you!
Lisa
Hi Lisa, you should be able to install HSPL as it has nothing to do with CWM. If really can’t, I have no idea then. Try to consult others at XDA website.
i did a wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition and the following messages popped up:
Wiping data…
Formatting /data…
E:format_volume: no MTC partition “userdata”
Formatting /cache…
E:format_volume: no MTC partition “cache”
Formatting /sd-ext…
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext.
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure…
Data wipe complete.
Then the whole slew that i posted before reappears.
Does this give any information that might point as to where the prob is?
If it doesn’t, then I thank you for your time, and I guess i’ll try my luck at xda ^^;
It might caused by corrupted MAGLDR or CWM. So I asked you to reinstall all of them again.
Jayce, U r the boos…my hd2 had wp7. Last night i wipe it using task29…thn i install Hspl thn Radio 2.15. thn Magldr… but Magldr not instaling showing some error though phn entering bootloader. i was following this video to install clockwork mod recovery “How to Install ClockworkMod Recovery on HTC HD2? (Video)”

Hi angrybird, please refer to this guide then.

Hey,
I have a problem: when I do boot AD SD it says: Sd initrd open failed.
And my laptop says I have a initrd file and not initrd.gz? does that matter?
Help please?
Hi ellis, what are you trying to do?
Well, I bought my phone from a person, who already put the android system on it. But the sd-card didn’t work, and I found somewhere that you needed to make a partition on your sd, but to do that, you had to install the clockworkmod. So after trying by a couple of tutorials, I put the initrd file and the other file in the root of my sd-card (like your instructions says) and did the DFT bootloader, but when I tried to boot it up after the reset, and do everything that’s in the video, it says: sd initrd open failed… and also a couple of numbers, and go go go
And the other boot (boot wph and boot ad nand)
ad nand says nand kernel open failed and boot wph says wph not installed.
solutions? Because now I can’t start my phone. It keeps going to the magldr screen… and I want to use it!
Thanks for replying 🙂
Hi ellis, try this Android ROM.
https://www.jayceooi.com/2012/02/21/download-install-nexushd2-android-4-0-3-ics-cm9-rom-for-htc-hd2/
will it get that layout too? or is it just some other file?
But why would this one work?
thanks
What layout? What file?
Others are using it fine.
well, the rom, and in the link you send there’s a photo of some other kind of layout…?
Download NexusHD2 Android 4.0.3 ICS CM9 ROM for HTC HD2 here.
and when I click on the “here” I can download the ROM right? I meant the zip.
The download link is at XDA Forum.
oh wait, I can’t even install the rom, because you need the clockworkmod for that, and the clockworkmod couldn’t install yet, because the booting proces didn’t work… I first need to fix that!

Hi Ashok, you can try Link2SD.
can u plz tell me the steps sir ?
Create a second partition on SD card. Then use Link2SD. More info at Link2SD app itself.
should i use this method to do the second partition ??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sy0vv_VjiWg
You can, that’s one of the methods.
thnk u sir for helping me !!
i owe u some claps for ur work 🙂
i did all the procedure but still apps are considering some of the phone memory
now m getting low memory notification again 🙁
This is normal because HTC HD2 really has very small internal disk space.
any other alternatives ??
Hi Ashok, use smallest CWM layout as you can. Internal storage is bigger on smaller CWM layout size.
