Design & Build Quality
Outstanding build quality yet stylish in design. It is covered with eco-friendly PU leather that’s warm to touch. Furthermore, it is water, oil and dust resistant. You can’t miss the misty gold colour too.
There is a sliding fabric cover in the front that protect the high light transmission coated lens and all the sensors. The dual 12W speakers optimised by Harman Kardon are just right below the cover. They support Dolby Audio, Dolby Digital (DD), Dolby Digital Plus (DD+), DTS-HD and DTS Virtual X. The sound quality is outstanding for its size. Loud and crisp with powerful deep bass. Very well-tuned by Harman Kardon. The best projector built-in speakers that I have ever tested yet.
Nothing on both left and right except for the nice to touch PU leather. By the way, just in case if you are wondering. The bottom part of the projector is the air inlet.
The air outlet is located at the back. Followed by DC input, 100M LAN port, two USB 2.0 ports, two HDMI ports, one with eARC support, S/PDIF optical, 3.5mm audio output and power button.
Have a closer look at the 4K high light transmission coated lens. It supports lossless optical zoom function with 1.2 to 1.5 throw ratio. The rest are custom-developed 3D ToF, megapixel CMOS and light sensor modules for Intelligent Screen Adaption Technology 3.0.
XGIMI Logo with eco-friendly PU leather is located on the top.
A big rectangle anti-skid pad and standard camera mount can be found at the bottom. All the openings there are air inlet. Be sure not to block them.
Lossless Adjustment
HORIZON Ultra supports 3 major optics adjustments with lossless image quality output. Variable Iris for dynamic adjustment of brightness and contrast. Dynamic Filter for dynamic adjustment of the screen colour gamut. Lastly, Automatic Optical Zoom Module for lossless screen scaling. These features are very useful in different types of environments lighting. And gives you the best image quality possible based on the playback contents as well. Take your time to play around with them and find the best combo for you.
Smart Screen Calibration
Place it anywhere that you prefer. HORIZON Ultra will do the rest for you all thanks to the latest Intelligent Screen Adaption Technology 3.0. It supports uninterrupted auto keystone and auto focus. Besides, it is also loaded with intelligent eye protection, obstacle avoidance and screen alignment. Yes, they are fast and accurate. And you can also fine-tune it manually in the end if needed. That’s not all. It also supports intelligent wall colour adaption. The system will auto calibrate and adjust the colour output according to your wall colour. Cool, right?
Projection Sizes
XGIMI HORIZON Ultra can be used during the day easily. I am projecting at 80” screen size with all lights turned on in my room right now. It is overkill! Based on my calculation, it has 2408 ANSI Lumens out of the box. That’s based on cinema mode with 6500K colour temperature. It can go up to 2549 ANSI Lumens on bright mode with 9000K colour temperature. Dual Light (LED + laser) does an outstanding job here no doubt.
Below is 140″ screen size in a totally dark room. That’s the maximum size for the wall. And it performs the best this way. FYI, it has 1.15 to 1.46 throw ratio thanks to Automatic Optical Zoom Module. You don’t need a big room to enjoy large screen size. And you can have brighter with lossless image quality through the optical zoom function. Slightly smaller screen but has the projector locks at the same spot. A useful function to enjoy brighter screen with some ambient lights. Last but not least, it is comfort to watch for long hours. Yup, it is movie night every day!
Image Quality
Outstanding optical image quality with 0.47” DMD chips by Texas Instruments. 4K UHD display output through XPR Technology. And using 5-channel LED-laser hybrid light path as the light source. Yes, this Dual Light is developed by XGIMI. It has a lot of useful benefits. For example, no colour edge, no flash spot, no speckle and so on. So it is comfortable to watch for long hours. Ultra-wide colour gamut with 95.5% DCI-P3 and 99.9% Rec709. The best part – no calibration is needed out of the box. You can start to enjoy accurate, vivid and colourful 4K images then.
Based on my calculation, HORIZON Ultra has 139% sRGB and 98% DCI P3 colour gamut volume. These are based on 9200K colour temp. And having around 400:1 contrast ratio with IRIS Brightness value at 8. Outstanding brightness uniformity at 95%.
Text Quality
Text performance is outstanding as well. Hey, we are taking 4K UHD resolution here. Thanks to Dual Light continuous spectrum, the texts are sharp and crisp. No flash spot and colour edge. Therefore, it is much more comfortable to read. You can use HORIZON Ultra to surf the Internet. Or make a presentation during the work with ease.
For extreme tests, it passed with flying colours. Period. The corners are perfectly sharp and in focus. Pixel performance is outstanding as you can see.
Android TV
HORIZON Ultra is powered by official Android TV 11.0 with fast boot support. 2GB RAM and 32GB storage are more than enough for your daily entertainment needs. Fast and smooth. And rest assured that all the applications that require Google services will work as expected.
Yes, plenty of applications and games in Google Play Store. You can download Disney+, Prime Video, Hulu, HBO, and many more from there. Of course, you can also install them through APK method as well. Totally up to you.
Video Playback Performance
HORIZON Ultra is your ultimate home cinema. Enjoy ultra high colour accuracy and enhanced contrast with Dolby Vision. It also supports other HDR formats like HDR10 and HLG. For video playback performance, it is outstanding. Both 24Hz and 50Hz are great. 60Hz is the best with perfectly smooth playback. In addition, it supports MEMC and will make all the videos smooth like butter. That’s not all, it also supports 3D display. Ultra high brightness makes all the 3D movies pop up into your eyes. And not to worry about the fan noise at all. Totally silent even in full brightness mode.
For the most common video app – YouTube, it can play 4K@60 video with the latest AV1 codec smoothly. Other streaming apps like Disney Plus and Prime Video are working properly too. 4K Dolby Vision with Dolby Audio support. However, native Netflix is not working. And 3rd party Netflix apps are not working too (for my region currently). Therefore, you need to use TV Stick for that. Do take note…
Dolby Vision
How to find Dolby Vision content? Simple, just download Apple TV or Disney Plus from Google Play Store. Type Dolby Vision and search. As you can see, plenty of them. Or connect the TV stick that you prefer. Do the same on Netflix as well. Enjoy cinematic experience comfortably at home.
Google Assistant & Chromecast
Voice command through Google Assistant is working properly. You can access all your home devices easily. For Android devices, Chromecast wireless mirroring is working smoothly too. The response is excellent for WiFi 6 connection. Yes, you can share photos with your friends and family. And even cast videos from your smartphone to the projector easily. FYI, Airplay is also supported for iOS devices through 3rd party app – Magicast.
Gaming Experience
For the best gaming experience, you need to enable Game Mode with Boost on HDMI. Keystone correction function will be disabled but you will get the lowest latency at 18ms then. Same result based on my input lag test. Piece of cake for casual games. You can even play FPS type of games if you want.
