How to install custom Android ROM on Kindle Fire with TWRP 2.0? (Video)

The primary reason that I bought Amazon Kindle Fire ~ the ability to install custom Android ROM on Kindle Fire. Yes, we can install custom Android ROM like CM7 Android 2.3 Gingerbread, CM9 Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on Kindle Fire to replace the stock software from Amazon. We can do so with the help of TWRP 2.0 Recovery. Note – install a new custom Android ROM will replace existing ROM. So do make a full Kindle Fire system backup with TWRP 2.0 Recovery before continue. Done everything? Let’s follow below step by step video tutorial guide to install custom Android ROM on Kindle Fire.

Prerequisites

  • TWRP 2.0 Recovery
  • Android ROM

First of all, make sure that you have TWRP 2.0 Recovery installed. TWRP 2.0 Recovery will help us to install custom Android ROM in zip format. Follow this guide to install TWRP 2.0 Recovery – How to install TWRP 2.0 Recovery on Kindle Fire? (Video).

Step by Step Guide

  1. Connect USB cable to Kindle Fire.
  2. Mount it as USB Mass Storage mode.
  3. At PC, copy your Android ROM zip file (Android-ROM.zip in my case) to Kindle Fire SDcard (root level).
  4. Turn off USB Mass Storage mode.
  5. Unplug USB cable.
  6. Power off Kindle Fire.
  7. Power on it.
  8. Press power button until light turn orange.
  9. TWRP 2.0 Recovery will be loaded then.
  10. Select Wipe. (You can skip this step if upgrade from same ROM)
  11. Select Cache then Wipe cache. (You can skip this step if upgrade from same ROM)
  12. Select Dalvik Cache then Wipe dalvik-cache. (You can skip this step if upgrade from same ROM)
  13. Select Factory Reset then Factory Reset. (You can skip this step if upgrade from same ROM)
  14. Go back to Home.
  15. Select Install this time.
  16. Then select your Android ROM zip file (Android-ROM.zip in my case).
  17. Select Flash after that.
  18. After installed, select Reboot System.
  19. That’s all.

  1. Hi, so i had fixed up everything on my kindle and i was running Cm7 gingerbread but i wanted to try the ICS CM9. I formatted my Sd card. and i tried installing the zip like before but I just get thrown back into the TWRP menu. Do i need to install something, or use the KF Utility?

  2. Ok, I tried that as well and its just stuck on Activating Normal (4000) then does nothing.
    I must be a bother, I’m sorry. If you have nothing else to recomend then i totally understand. thanks for the help.

  3. I’m totally freaking out! I followed all directions and now it won’t boot at all! It’s stuck at the yellow triangle! Please help me. I’ve pressed the power button until it turns orange and nothing happens…I’ve left it alone for 10 minutes and nothing happens. What do I do???

  4. I bought my son a kindle fire for christmas… I am interested in upgrading it to Android ICS…Is it pretty easy to do that? Do I just follow these instructions in the video? And all I need is a USB cord and a SD?
