Nexus Prime ~ the upcoming smartphone from Google and Samsung. Some call it as Samsung Galaxy Nexus but I still prefer Nexus Prime. It will be equipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich which combine both phone and tablet OS into one. And no doubt that it will have a 720p HD screen. But the rest of the hardware specs are still not confirmed. There is several sources mention about Nexus Prime Specs such as BGR, GSMArena… Which one of them is correct?
As a hardcore 3D gamer, I only care for Nexus Prime CPU, GPU and display screen. It is almost certain that Nexus Prime will have 4.65″ 1280 x 720 px Super AMOLED HD with curved glass screen. But there are 2 types of CPU / GPU based on the sources ~ TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor @ 1.2GHz with PowerVR SGX540 and Samsung new Exynos dual-core Cortex A9 processor @ 1.5GHz with PowerVR SGX543MP2.
Having PowerVR SGX543MP2 is too good if it is true. For your information, iPad 2 and iPhone 4S are using dual-core SGX543MP2 while PlayStation Vita is using quad-core SGX543MP4. These are the most powerful 3D GPU for the moment. Android is behind iOS on 3D gaming. If Google really can put PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU on the latest developer phone ~ Nexus Prime, it might change the whole game. Android game developers can come out better and nicer 3D games in the near future as Google has level up the hardware requirement for 3D gaming.
Personal thought… Nope, ‘something BIG is coming’ does not mean PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU but rather 720p HD screen only. Why? Samsung Galaxy S II in Malaysia is starting to use Texas Instruments OMAP4430 CPU and PowerVR SGX540 GPU (GT-I9100G) instead of Samsung Exynos 4210 SoC CPU and ARM Mali-400 GPU (GT-I9100). So it is not a surprise to me if Nexus Prime is equipped with TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor @ 1.2GHz with PowerVR SGX540. I don’t want to be disappointed like iPhone 4S that still with 3.5″ screen (too small for me) but I really like its PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU.
What do you think?
